Repairs guidance - blocked sinks and toilets
Toilets
When you need to unblock a toilet, take half a bucket of hot water and pour it into the toilet as quickly as possible without spilling it. This can help force the blockage through. You can also try using the toilet brush or a covered mop — watch the video for a guide to how to unblock your toilet.
If you can’t clear the blockage, contact our Repairs team. You may be charged if we unblock your toilet and find that you could have avoided the blockage (for instance, if the toilet is blocked due to a flushed nappy or large amounts of toilet paper).
Sinks
When you need to unblock the sink in your kitchen or bathroom, there are three things you can try:
-
Pour hot water down the plug hole
-
Use a plunger to move the blockage — watch the video for a guide on how to use a plunger to unblock a sink
-
Use a drain cleaner/sink unblocking product that you can buy in a DIY store or supermarket.
If you can’t unblock your sink yourself, contact our Repairs team. You may be charged if the sink is blocked because you have poured food, oil or other products down it.
