Our commitment to dealing with damp and mould

We are determined to ensure no CKH resident ever has to experience the effect that the presence of damp and mould in their homes can have on their health and wellbeing. Recently, there has been a lot of conversation in the national media about how difficult it is to live with damp and mould and the impact it can have on people’s lives.

Damp and mould can be a difficult problem to treat as there are so many factors that can cause moisture in the home, but CKH has a clear commitment to always act whenever residents report damp or mould to any member of our team.

No one should live with mould in their home. We believe our repairs team are talking to every resident experiencing damp and/or mould. If this is not the case, please tell us.

All CKH residents have the right to report problems with damp and mould at any time of day or night, 365 days a year. After we learn about a problem, we will visit to clean the mould and treat the areas within 28 days – usually sooner. We will then talk to you about what the possible causes may be and how we can help prevent the problem from returning.

As part of our proactive approach to dealing with damp and mould, over the last year alone we have:

  • Reviewed and updated our damp and mould policy to make sure we act quickly when residents get in touch.
  • Committed to clean any report of mould within 28 days.
  • Introduced a follow up call with residents within 2 months of a mould treatment.
  • Started monitoring damp and mould statistics more robustly so we can identify trends and possible root causes.
  • Participated in the Housing Ombudsman’s investigation into how housing associations deal with reports of damp and mould.
  • Reviewed the Housing Ombudsman’s recommendations against our proactive approach to make sure we are following best practice guidance.

We know mould will continue to grow in places where moisture occurs, but we are confident we have the processes and procedures to ensure no resident should live with mould as the right support is in place to deal with the problem as well as the root causes.

If you think you may have signs of mould in your home, please get in touch as soon as possible, we will help you. You can call our Repairs team on 01733 385030 or report the problem online via MyCKH.  You can also talk to the team over live chat on our website five days a week.
