A day in the life of a Repairs Surveyor

Meet our Repairs Surveyor, Nadia. Nadia is a member of our Asset Management team.

As a surveyor, it is my job to look at the structure of your home and make sure there are no potential problems that could impact on your health and safety or lead to damage to the building. Anytime there is a major accident or incident, like a fire, that could impact on the safety of one of our homes, my colleagues and I will visit to assess if it is safe and what repair works are needed. We also complete routine visits where we look at the general condition of homes. We share this information with the teams who plan the longer-term work to our homes, like replacing windows.

Today, I’m starting by reviewing a case where a car drove into one of our homes! Thankfully no one was harmed and the building itself was only slightly damaged. I requested some works to fix the brickwork and want to make sure it has been done on time and to our standard. I always try to start my day with a plan, but I’ve been a surveyor for almost 10 years now, so I know that anything can happen! Yesterday, I had a call from the emergency services and had to meet the Police at one of our homes to complete a structural assessment. I am there to look at the building, but I also make sure the resident knows exactly what is happening and provide some reassurance that we are here to help.

Later on, I have some routine property condition inspections planned, where I will take a look at the inside and outside of the home to check for wear and flaws. We always check for signs of damp or condensation too, as well as things that could lead to damp or mould in the future. Afterwards, I will update our records to make sure we have a good idea of when planned works will be needed. If there is anything that needs to be dealt with straight away, I talk to our Repairs team.

My last appointment today is with a young single mum, who reported some light mildew around the windows. Whilst removing it I explained that this mildew is very common especially during the winter, and nothing to be alarmed about, as long as it is removed. Whilst there I checked the condition of the home for any potential repairs and assured the resident that we will always help with damp and mould – they just need to report it if it occurs.

If you need to report a repair or signs of damp and mould, just login to MyCKH to report a problem online or call or Repairs Centre at any time on 01733 385030.
