We're working with Peterborough Women's Aid

On White Ribbon Day, we are proud to announce we've teamed up with Peterborough Women’s Aid (PWA) to provide an additional Domestic Abuse Support Worker for the city.

The role is funded by us and employed by Women’s Aid and 50% of the role will be dedicated to supporting domestic abuse survivors who are our residents.

We already has strong support available to survivors of domestic abuse, helping them to move, while retaining tenancy rights. Our specialist team provides emotional support, practical help and advice on housing issues. We can also signpost survivors to other agencies. This role will enable us to offer even more direct support to people in need.

We are a member of the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance and are currently working towards their accreditation standard.

Our Chief Executive, Claire Higgins said: “Domestic abuse is sadly a very real problem for many people within the city. I am delighted that we are able to fund this role to expand the support we can offer to survivors, to help them to move on and rebuild their lives in safety. We know that lockdown and an increase in working from home has led to many people being more isolated and unable to access the support networks they need, and we want to reassure our residents that take all forms of domestic abuse seriously and via this partnership with Women’s Aid, we will do all we can to help them.”

PWA Chief Executive, Clare Taylor, said: “This is a really important role for us at PWA as we become even more embedded in the community with the biggest housing provider.  This means we are even more accessible to women and men across the city, breaking down barriers to getting the vital support they may need.”
